Going Filter Free!

If the past year and a half has taught us anything it is that we need to take the time to take care of ourselves. Whether it’s exercising more, reading more, or treating ourselves to monthly facials. We are living in very advantageous times where the overwhelming task of finding the perfect filter for your selfie has become the priority. Why not enhance your monthly facial experience by incorporating a treatment that packs a punch and delivers results that will get you closer to that filter-free face?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments or “Photofacials” are a great medical grade option to effectively treat acne, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, sun spots, vascular lesions, and even bruising leaving your skin looking flawless.

HOW DOES A PHOTO FACIAL WORK?

It’s Magic! Well… Not quite, but it is still really amazing. Certain filters are chosen for the appropriate concern and the proper settings are then entered into the device. The IPL is attracted to specific subject areas (in the case of the Photofacial: hyperpigmentation, vascular lesions, acne scars, etc.) which in turn will pull out the pigment and also stop unnecessary blood flow to broken capillaries. The IPL can also target the acne-causing bacteria resulting in fewer breakouts. A full-face treatment lasts about 20-25 minutes however it may take a little longer for the first treatment. You’ll receive a new treatment every 4 weeks for about 4-6 weeks. It may take more or less time based on your particular concerns.

You do not have to stop with the face, treatments on the neck, chest, back, arms, hands, and even legs are always encouraged!

WHAT HAPPENS DURING MY PHOTOFACIAL?

After a thorough consultation and evaluation with your aesthetician, your Photofacial will be customized to target your specific concerns. During your treatment, the IPL is emitted from a handpiece to specific areas of the skin. When the energy is emitted there will be a very bright flash and the sensation is similar to that of a hot rubber band snap. Residual heat is common post-treatment but will dissipate shortly after. Immediate darkening of sunspots/freckles is desired however some may not start to become darker until a few hours post-treatment. As the week progresses the spots will become darker resembling coffee grounds and then they eventually slough off on their own. Mild redness following the treatment is very common and will go down fairly quickly.

During the healing process, it is advised to use gentle cleansers, moisturizers, and a good SPF, and do not exfoliate any of the affected area(s). Also, staying out of the sun is expected and preferred as the whole goal is to remove the damage caused by the sun.

TO SUM IT ALL UP…

The Photofacial is quickly becoming one of the go-to treatments on the market. The results are proven and satisfaction is a certainty. A relatively quick treatment with no real downtime, just some precautions. You would be remiss to not take advantage of this method to achieve your best skin. Impress your followers with your clear, filter-free skin!
